Strengthening reinforced concrete bridges and overpasses

An overpass (bridge) is a bridge structure over a road that allow one route of traffic to pass over another and cross barriers, such as lakes straights, ravines, etc. They are built on pillars that support the loads of roadways, pedestrian crossings, and pipelines. The weight transfers first to the supports, then to the bridge foundation.

Areas of use:

Strengthening of bridge structures and overpasses built with supports, beams and reinforced concrete slabs, which have insufficient load-bearing capacity in relation to a normal cross-section under the influence of shear forces, torque, seismic and static overload.

Method of strengthening reinforced concrete beams:

1. Single-piece unidirectional carbon strips of FibArm Tape (composite material) are applied horizontally along the entire length of the beam’s areas of stress on the lower surface with a bend. The number of layers is determined based on the calculations of load-bearing capacity.

2. So that the effects of active shear forces transfer properly, the area near the beam-supports are covered with U-shaped stirrups made from FibArm Tape.

Method of strengthening ribbed reinforced concrete slabs:

1. Single-piece strips of FibArm Tape (composite material) are applied horizontally along the entire length and width of the lower edge of the rib (can be bent onto the lateral surface). The number of layers is calculated based on load-bearing capacity.

2. So that the effects of shear forces transfer properly, the area near the slab supports are covered with U-shaped stirrups made from FibArm Tape.

3. It is possible to glue the transverse slab ribs with unidirectional strips of the composite material FibArm Tape and install stirrups to secure the edges. 

Method of strengthening hollow-core reinforced concrete slabs:

1. Single-piece, unidirectional strips of from FibArm Tape composite material are applied lengthwise over the entire length of the lower surface. The width space value used is no more than the height of the slab multiplied by 2. The number of layers is determined based on the calculations of the load-bearing capacity.

2. To encourage full adhesion of the slab to the support and maintain the structure’s rigidity, cross-directional strips of FibArm Tape (composite material) are applied to the area of the slab support.

Method of strengthening reinforced concrete columns:

Continuous or intermittent horizontal stirrups of composite material FibArm Tape are installed around the entire perimeter of the floor cross-section (200 mm). This structural solution enhances the strength and load-bearing capacity, creating a three-dimensional stress state in the concrete.
Casings made from FibArm Tape composite material around the entire perimeter can be pasted in multiple layers without losing effectiveness.
